Sporting Kansas City v St. Louis City: Visitors want to show fight during ´test of character´

St. Louis City interim head coach John Hackworth says their recent struggles have been a test of character as they look to bounce back against Sporting Kansas City.

St. Louis have lost their last three games by an aggregate score of 10-2, leaving them 13th in the Western Conference, eight points off a playoffs place.

With only one win in their last 13 MLS matches, Hackworth is keen to snap their current losing streak and says he saw positives in their 2-0 defeat to Seattle Sounders in midweek.

The players made a huge step [against Seattle], played much better than we did previously, Hackworth said.

[We] gave ourselves a chance to be in that game, had some unfortunate things again happen to us, but it wasn t for lack of trying to play with a lot of heart…

Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin will miss Euro 2016 after undergoing successful surgery on a knee injury.

Perin, whose injury was initially revealed on Tuesday, is behind Gianluigi Buffon and Salvatore Sirigu in the national team pecking order, although he was expected to travel to France as third choice.

Perin, who went to the 2014 World Cup, made his international debut in a 1-0 friendly victory over Albania in November of the same year.

Liverpool criticise the PGMOL and will explore their options after Spurs error

Liverpool have criticised the Professional Game Match Officials Limited and warned they will “explore the range of options available” following the VAR controversy at Tottenham.

The PGMOL admitted VAR officials Darren England and Dan Cook failed to act after Luis Diaz’s 34th-minute strike at Tottenham was wrongly ruled out for offside. Still images of the incident showed Cristian Romero playing Diaz onside.

The disallowed goal came with the match still goalless but after Curtis Jones had been controversially sent off following England’s intervention. Liverpool went on to lose 2-1.

Liverpool Football Club acknowledges PGMOL’s admission of their failures last night.

It is clear that the correct application of the laws of the game did not occur, re…

Rosicky included in final Czech Republic squad for Euro 2016

Tomas Rosicky has been named in Czech Republic s final squad for Euro 2016.

The midfielder, who is set become a free agent when his Arsenal contract expires at the end of June, was selected in the provisional squad despite playing just 19 minutes for the London club in a campaign ravaged by injuries.

Rosicky featured in only five of Czech Republic s 10 qualifying games but captained his country in a 6-0 friendly win over Malta on Friday.

And he will provide a veteran presence in a squad lacking in household names, with the 35-year-old and his Arsenal team-mate Petr Cech the most experienced members of the 23-man group.

Sparta Prague midfielder Lukas Marecek and striker Patrik Schick were both omitted, having survived the first cut from 28 to 25.

Never a dull moment: Jurgen Klopp’s impact at Liverpool has been immense

As the PA news agency’s Liverpool correspondent for more than a decade I’ve had the privilege of seeing the Jurgen Klopp era close up. Three Champions League finals (and one victory) in five years, a first league title in 30, too many top one-liners to count, a few admonishments from the man himself for a line of questioning he thought obvious or facile but also frequent comedic exchanges have meant there has never been a dull moment. He will be missed when he’s gone.

Seismic. There is no other word for Jurgen Klopp’s decision to leave Liverpool.

Everyone knew this day would come – his contract was for another two years but he had already stayed longer than any of his previous jobs and showed no huge appetite to extend again – but it lands so hard in this, of…

As time progressed and after hours of discussion with our Big Ten Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases and the Big Ten Sports Medicine Committee, it became abundantly clear that there was too much uncertainty rega…

The defender has made 101 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. Guehi has scored three goals, given two assists, and has kept 22 clean sh…
