Everton 1 Wolves 3: Nuno´s men impress as Silva´s woes worsen

Wolves piled further pressure on under-fire Everton boss Marco Silva with an entertaining 3-1 win at Goodison Park on Saturday.

The Toffees patchy results this season have seen the Portuguese s position come under intense scrutiny and he will not be sitting any more comfortably after Wolves picked up a third straight Premier League victory to cement their place just outside the top six.

Ruben Neves early penalty had Nuno Espirito Santo s side ahead but Everton were level midway through the first half thanks to Andre Gomes thumping first goal for the club.

However, slack marking from a free-kick allowed Raul Jimenez to head home on the stroke of half-time and Leander Dendoncker smashed in a volley midway through the second period to secure Wolves first win at G…

Palace sign former Brazil goalkeeper Cavalieri

Crystal Palace have confirmed the signing of former Brazil international goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri on a deal to the end of the season.

The 35-year-old, who won three caps for his country and was a member of the Confederations Cup-winning squad in 2013, was a free agent after leaving Fluminense in his homeland last year.

Cavalieri will provide competition for Palace s two senior goalkeepers, Julian Speroni and Wayne Hennessey, as Roy Hodgson s side battle against relegation from the Premier League.

I am very happy to be here and have been training with the guys for some time now, Cavalieri told Palace s website.

The atmosphere in the dressing room has been really good and they have received me very well so we can talk a lot and get to know everyone. I a…

Juanfran delays decision on new Atletico Madrid contract

Atletico Madrid defender Juanfran says he will wait until the end of the season before deciding whether to sign a new contract with the club.

The 34-year-old agreed a one-year contract extension last June but has struggled for game time this season, making just 14 starts in LaLiga.

Despite a new deal being on the table for the former Spain international, he says he will delay making a decision until the campaign s conclusion.

I have been offered a new contract, but I have postponed it, he said. The important thing now is the team and ending the season strongly.

Atletico have shown a lot of faith by this offer, but these decisions are not easy and I will speak with my family before I decide.

The right-back joined Atleti in January 2011 from Os…

Inter squad can go all the way – Spalletti

Inter head coach Luciano Spalletti believes he has a squad capable of winning Serie A if they can avoid any notable departures during the January transfer window.

The Nerazzurri travel to Verona on Monday and know a win will move them above Lazio and Juventus into second place, just two points behind leaders Napoli.

Inter have yet to taste defeat in the league this season and Spalletti thinks they have what it takes to win their first Scudetto since the 2009-10 season, if he can keep his squad together.

The difficult part comes now, because we have to stay in that group at the top of the table, he said at his pre-match press conference.

We will now realise if we ve got the resources to achieve our objective. If we see that something else is needed, …

Messi preventing Griezmann from expressing himself at Barca – Wenger

Not playing at his position is complicated in the long term, Wenger told beIN SPORTS.

At the start, the guy accepts it but, if he does not meet his needs in the long term and he feels that the position does not allow him to express his qualities, he will become discouraged.

Today, he is a player who must play in the centre because he has a great work rate, a precision in his passes.

He can be dangerous with the last pass and by scoring goals, but there is congestion because he is in the range of play of Messi.

In his first season with Barca last time out, Griezmann scored nine goals, supplied four assists and created 33 chances in 35 LaLiga appearances.

Griezmann finished 2019-20 with 15 goals in all competitions – a tumultuous camp…

Man City maestro De Bruyne brings up 100th assist in style

Kevin De Bruyne created his 100th goal for Manchester City across all competitions with a stunning cross that teed up John Stones opener against Crystal Palace.

Having previously gone close to hitting the landmark when he attempted to set up Raheem Sterling, De Bruyne reached a century of assists in supreme style in the 26th minute on Sunday.

After Palace failed to clear their lines from a corner, De Bruyne floated in a wonderful right-wing cross with the outside of his foot, dropping the delivery precisely onto the head of Stones, who celebrated his second Premier League goal and his first for City.

It means the Belgium playmaker has now created 31 more Premier League goals than any other player since he made his debut for City in 2015.

Fulham 0-1 Chelsea: Mount spares blushes of unimpressive Blues

Mason Mount scored a late winner as Chelsea scraped to an unimpressive 1-0 win at a struggling Fulham side that played half the match a man light.

Frank Lampard s side went into the match without a win in any of their three previous Premier League games, a run that had seen their coach come under increased pressure. Although they were able to end that streak, the performance was by no means vintage.

Chelsea had the better of the first half but did not begin to exert genuine control until after Antonee Robinson s dismissal in the 44th minute left the Blues with a numerical advantage.

They had great difficulty making the most of that sending off, but eventually Mount struck 12 minutes from time to move Chelsea back up to seventh in the table.

Sleeping pill use rife in football, says expert after Dele Alli interview

Sleep expert James Wilson, who has worked at West Ham, Rotherham and Lincoln, agrees it is a concern but said the pills are counter-productive for good sleep.

“You hear stories from players and members of staff that say, ‘You should go and work with this club because every single first-team player is taking sleeping pills every single night’,” he told PA.

“They are not generally good for your sleep and they are not good for recovery so that is why they are not a good idea in football. The fact they are addictive is the cherry on the cake in saying why we should not be using sleeping pills, especially as a first line of defence.

“In society in general we don’t understand the use of sleeping pills. The use is more rife in football because the job itse…

Low wants more after Kimmich-inspired Germany dispatch Iceland

Germany s youthful side were in slick form against Iceland but outgoing head coach Joachim Low expects more from their next two World Cup qualifiers.

Iceland proved no match for Low s side on Thursday, with early goals from Leon Goretzka and Kai Havertz paving the way for a comfortable triumph before Ilkay Gundogan rounded out a 3-0 success.

Led by the imperious Joshua Kimmich, Germany dominated throughout.

They had 81.5 per cent possession, attempted 1,053 passes – at an accuracy of 92.3 per cent – and had 15 shots compared to Iceland s eight, with Manuel Neuer only called into action twice.

From his position at the base of midfield, versatile Bayern Munich star Kimmich controlled proceedings, tallying up 176 touches, 150 successful passes and a t…
