Prediction: Germany vs Portugal

8th June 2012

After finishing as runners up at the Euro 2008, Germany hope to go one step further this time, and a victory in their opening game against Portugal would definitely be a step in the right direction. The Selecao, on the other hand, desperately need to raise their game following some dismal showings in warm-up games and the game against one of the title contenders clearly comes at a bad time for Paulo Bento’s side.

The recent uptrend of die Mannschaft coincided with the arrival of coach Joachim Low, who first helped Jurgen Klinsmann lead the national team to the 3rd place at the 2006 World Cup, before taking this team to the Euro 2008 final and another 3rd-place finish at the 2010 World Cup. Everyone can see that Germany have come a long way over the last …

Neymar surprises Richarlison with Everton award

Neymar made a surprise appearance on Everton s social media channels on Wednesday as he presented his Brazil team-mate Richarlison with an award.

Richarlison was belatedly named Everton s Player of the Season for the 2019-20 campaign, which was heavily disrupted due to coronavirus.

The 23-year-old – who joined Everton from Watford in 2018-19 – scored 15 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions for the Toffees last term.

He has made no secret of his admiration for Neymar, who he has played with at international level, and the Paris Saint-Germain superstar made a guest appearance to present Richarlison with the award.

Hey Richarlison, I am so happy for you, congratulations on your season, Neymar said in a video published on Everton s official T…

Liverpool v Manchester City: Guardiola´s men faced with grim Anfield numbers

Pep Guardiola s Manchester City juggernaut arrives at Anfield on Sunday for arguably the sternest test remaining this season for the runaway Premier League leaders.

City have won at Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford already this season but their record away to Liverpool has been dismal for some time now.

Jurgen Klopp is expected to hand a league debut to Virgil van Dijk after the centre-back made himself an instant hero with the winner in last week s FA Cup Merseyside derby against Everton.

Liverpool are on a 13-match unbeaten run at home and City must be on their mettle to get the better of a tussle that has rarely been kind to them – as these Opta numbers demonstrate.

Accrington Stanley 6/5 to beat Oldham Athletic in Tuesday’s EFL Cup showdown

Market: Accrington Stanley win

Odds: 6/5 @

Looking to extend on their EFL Cup adventure on Tuesday night, Accrington Stanley will make the trip to Boundary Park when they face off against local rivals Oldham.

Starting with the hosts, while Oldham might have managed to extend on their League Two status with time to spare last season, The Latics are in the midst of what is becoming a fourth-tier nightmare. Already rooted to the foot of the table and many tipping them as a leading pick in the relegation battle this year, the pressure appears to be mounting on Head Coach Keith Curle. Last seen over the weekend when getting hit with a 2-1 defeat against Colchester on home soil, the former Northampton boss is yet to see his side pick up a single point so far this sea…

Man Utd legend Scholes handed Salford City reins

Paul Scholes has been placed in temporary charge of Salford City after the League Two club dismissed Graham Alexander on Monday.

The Manchester United legend had an ill-fated 31-day spell in charge of fellow fourth-tier club Oldham Athletic last year.

He is stepping in on a caretaker basis after Salford, unbeaten in the league this season, decided to terminate Alexander s contract after a reign that started in May 2018 and included promotion from the Conference National.

Scholes first game at the helm of Salford, who surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Tranmere Rovers on Saturday, will come at Port Vale this weekend.

The 45-year-old is one of the part-owners of Salford, with former United team-mates David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt and Gary…

Harry Kane hints at future Tottenham return after completing Bayern Munich move

England captain Harry Kane has left the door open for a return to Tottenham after completing his £100million move to Bayern Munich.

Kane travelled to Germany on Friday for a medical and the Bundesliga giants confirmed on Saturday morning he had signed a deal until June 2027 and will wear the number nine shirt.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said the club had “reluctantly” agreed to the move after Kane, who was in the last 12 months of his contract, made it clear he wanted a fresh challenge.

Kane said in a message to Tottenham fans posted on his social media accounts: “It’s not a goodbye because you never know how things pan out in the future, but it’s a thank you and I’ll see you soon.”

The 30-year-old told his new club’s website that he hope…

Prediction: Celtic vs Real Betis

Best Odds: 11/8

Bookmaker:

Simply looking to end their Europa League adventure with a flurry on Thursday night, Celtic will welcome a high-flying Real Betis to Glasgow.

Celtic

Starting with the hosts, while Celtic might know that they cannot book their spot in the knockout stage of this year s Europa League, the Scottish giants will take some solace from their recent boost. Left heartbroken out in Germany a fortnight ago as they suffered that dramatic 3-2 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen, the Hoops did pick up some perfect momentum over the weekend. Storming their way to a routine 3-0 romp away at Dundee United, Head Coach Ange Postecoglou has been filled with praise for his side s recent displays. While they might have initially struggled to find their feet und…

Caicedo wary of attacking Chile

Ecuador forward Felipe Caicedo expects Chile to play on the counter-attack when the teams meet in a World Cup qualifier on Friday.

Reinaldo Rueda s team sit third in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying ahead of the crucial encounter in Quito.

They will be without Antonio Valencia for the clash at Estadio Olimpico Atahualpa after the Manchester United attacker was sent off against Uruguay.

Lokomotiv Moscow s Caicedo, 24, said he expected Chile to sit back and try to hit his team on the break.

We are going to play at home and we have to prevail but it will be a difficult match, he said.

We have to play with patience because all the squads that play against Ecuador close their defences and wait for us to attack.

The bad thing is that Valencia w…

Tonali set for August return after receiving suspended two-month ban from FA

Sandro Tonali has been given a suspended two-month ban by the Football Association (FA) after admitting to breaching gambling rules.

The sanction means the Newcastle United midfielder will be eligible to return to action on August 27, 2024, when his 10-month suspension issued by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) expires.

FIFA ratified that ban, causing it to become applicable worldwide, after Tonali admitted to placing bets on matches as part of an investigation into unregulated betting platforms in Italy.

In March, the FA charged Tonali with breaching English football s gambling rules 50 times between August and October last year, leading to fears his spell out of the game could be extended.

However, on Thursday it was confirmed that the FA had sus…
